Woolia von Gepard besteht aus einer ganz besonderen Wolle einer alten, original italienischen Schafrasse: Merino Gentile Puglia.
Woolia wird aus der Wolle von Lämmern und Schafen dieser ursprünglichen italienischen Merinorasse gesponnen. Sie grasen hauptsächlich zwischen Obst- und Olivenbäumen auf Bio-Plantagen und auf weitläufigen Flächen.
Diese Schafrasse lebte und lebt heute wieder in einem kleineren Gebiet rund um Apulien und einigen anderen Gegenden. Apulien ist der ursprüngliche Lebensraum dieser Schafrasse, daher bleiben die Tiere dort viel von Natur aus gesünder. Diese Form der Schafhaltung und deren Beweidung ist die nachhaltigste Form der Wollproduktion. Es ist umweltfreundlich und bietet beste Lebensbedingungen für Schafe und Schafzüchter. Die Bauern sortieren die Wolle selbst und verkaufen sie direkt an die Gepard-Spinnerei. Auf diese Weise erhalten die Bauern bessere Preise für die Wolle und der Ursprung des Garnes ist bis zur Herde nachvollziehbar.
Woolia ist angenehm weich, leicht und pillt nicht. Selbst Pullover mit Zopf- oder Fair-Isle-Muster bleiben angenehm leicht.
Beim ersten Griff mag die Wolle etwas "trocken" erscheinen, das ist ein Merkmal dieser Merinowolle. Woolia kratzt nicht und die daraus gestrickten Teile behalten wunderbar ihre Form.

Woolia by Gepard is made of a very special wool from an old original Italian sheep breed: Merino Gentile Puglia.
Woolia is spun from the wool from lambs and sheep of the original Italian merino breed. They mainly graze between fruit and olive trees on organic plantations and on extensive areas. This breed lived and lives now again in a smaller local area around Puglia and other areas. Puglia is the sheep's original habitat and therefore the sheep stay naturally healthy much easier. That form of sheep farming and their grazing is the most sustainable form of wool production. It is environmentally friendly and provides the best living conditions for the sheep and the sheep breeders. The farmers sort the wool by themselves and sell the wool directly to the Gepard spinning mill. This way, the farmer gets a better price for the wool and the yarn is traceable down to the individual small flocks of sheep.
Woolia is soft and doesn't pill. You also have arounf 30% more meters than in other yarn with same thickness. This means that a sweater become light weight, even those with cable or fair isle patterns.
The first time you feel the wool, you will probably find it a little dry, which is a characteristic of this merino. It is also the distinctive feature that gives the yarn a great lightness and the characteristic that makes Woolia-knits keep its shape regardless of needle size. Another feature is that Woolia does not scratch but maintains a very beautiful surface.
